Ecuador isn't as cheap as it once was, but it's still a lot cheaper than some points north of here.  I was shocked, a little, to find lemons on sale for 99¢, each, in Canada. Once upon a time, in Spain, Sue and I took turns 'driving over lemons,' literally, the phrase the title of a well-known book on one expat's life in Andalusia.  There were so many lying about, including on the road, I can't imagine anyone paying anything for lemons there.  Here, we don't have so many lemons, but oranges - sweet, sour, and Mandarin - that I can't imagine anyone here paying for them either.  Last week, someone wondered if we sold our bananas.  Not when an entire block of street is covered with banana (and plantain) every week at the Sunday Market in Malacatos, a small town just over the mountains from us.

So with that in mind, here's a 'quiz' to start your Monday... How much did Sue pay for all of this?

'This' includes three large sweet potatoes, red potatoes, carrots, onions, a tub of berries, and a pineapple.  I'd also be curious as to what you think you'd pay for a similar basket wherever you are, outside of Ecuador.
